Casting Club and Fly Fishing 201 at Orvis

"Bend Casting Club" Second Meeting and learning Roll Casting with Ryan Young

Dates: September 4th, 2010
Time: 6:00pm to 8:00pm

Another FREE casting clinic with the folks at Orvis on the Casting Course at the Old Mill!!

We will be meeting at Hole 2 to start off talking about different techniques for Roll Casting with Ryan Young from the Orvis Store in Bend. We will be working on holes 2,3, and 4 to demonstrate the proper technique of roll casting to increase scores on the Casting Course along with practical fishing concepts for this cast. The focus here is to better present a fly in close-in, as well as tightly contained fishing conditions. The emphasis will be on accuracy, technique, and distance.

This night will also give us another opportunity to discuss more how we as participants would like the Casting Club to develop. At this point we will start putting together regular meeting times for all of us that works well within our schedules. Volunteer for the Salmon Watch Program with The Freshwater Trust and the Upper Deschutes Watershed Council

Since 1993, The Freshwater Trust’s award-winning Salmon Watch has been an effective environmental education program serving middle and high school students in Oregon. Enabling students to witness spawning salmon – one of nature’s great spectacles – coupled with classroom instruction and service learning projects, the program is designed to instill a deeper appreciation and understanding of the value of native wild fish, watershed conservation and environmental stewardship.

Flyfishing Puget Sound with Leland Miyawaki

Ready for something new and different? How about hooking up with a wild Pacific Salmon on a 6wt fly rod? Join us as we begin an exciting fall program with Leland Miyawaki and - Fly Fishing Puget Sound Beaches. Mr. Miyawaki is the inventor of the famous "Miyawaki Beach Popper” surface fly, which will be raffled off later in the program. His topic will include a myriad of Puget Sound Beach fly fishing opportunities, including the Sea run Cutthroat, Coho, Pink, Chum and Chinook Salmon. Leland is a Puget Sound flyfishing guide and Manager of the Orvis retail store in Bellevue, Washington. Casting Club and Fly Fishing 201 at Orvis

Free On-The-Water Clinic

Dates: September 18th, 2010
Time: 9:00am to 12:00pm

This will be a free on the water clinic at Farewell Bend Park for a class on the basics of "Fly Presentation". Topics on "Line-Mending", "Drag Free Drifts", "Swinging Wet and Streamer Style Flies", are some of what we will be covering this evening.

Efforts to further grow the casting ability of students, but to also produce anglers with proper line handling skills, will maximize their fish catching potential and enjoyment on the water.

Fall Planting & Fence Work for Sisters Irrigation Restoration Project

Join the Upper Deschutes Watershed Council and Trout Unlimited to help restore Whychus Creek around the Three Sisters Irrigation system. The Watershed Council will lead the group in a planting party and fence work for their Three Sisters Irrigation District project. TU members and friends will be camping on the Metolius River on the evening of the 7th, 8th and 9th, with fishing and storytelling on Sunday. Contact Darek (dstaab@tu.org) if you are interested in learning more and helping with this planting effort. Come join us for a day or for the weekend.
