What to Expect in February

What usually happens. Best way to use this section.

If a storm comes in, hit the river when it's clearing and dropping, and you can do well. Use a type 3 or type 6 sink tip line and traditional tactics. Marabous and Egg Sucking Leeches are productive patterns here when swinging flies. Indicator tactics work well around slots, rocky pocket water, and near ledges.

Pick a large dark fly (purple or black) if the water is on the turbid side and fish the margins of the river.

Choose a smaller fly in pink or orange if the water is clear and use a thinner tippet (8-10 pound test). Approach likely fishing runs with stealth if the water is low.
