What to Expect in September

What usually happens. Best way to use this section.

Cooler weather will reduce glacial melting and make this a decent prospect. If you have two feet of visibility, you can catch steelhead in the Klickitat. But . . . wait for cooler weather first.

Indicator tactics work well here in September because the steelhead behave like resident trout. So try a drowned hopper, Big Bird, or other drab fly dead-drifted near the bottom in pocket water sections. Muddlers are a good choice for traditional tactics in transition water and runs.
