HOOK: 2457, sizes 6 THREAD: To match body color BODY: Glo-Bug yarn trimmed in sphere. Use one of these colors: pink, peach, red-orange, or chartreuse. Wrap the yarn around nickel or tungsten eyes. The stick-on pupils are optional.

Uses

This variation of the Glo Bug imitates fish roe, but the extra weight from the eyes helps to get it down near the bottom where it needs to be. When salmon spawn in the fall, there are always steelhead and trout just downstream from them, waiting to scarf up loose eggs.

Variations

Sparkle yarn is sometimes used, and some flies are tied with a white hackle collar that imitates an egg with sperm.

How to Fish

Use with an indicator and dead-drift the fly near the river bottom during spawning seasons. If you see spawning salmon, you can cast so the fly lands just behind them and drifts below the spawning pair. You can bet there are steelhead or trout waiting below the salmon for drifting eggs.
