Uses

The larvae of grannoms (caddis; genus Brachycentrus) build cases of little sticks and other vegetation. The larvae often end up in the drift and are eaten by trout, case and all. This fly resembles a cased grannom larva. For more on this pattern, see Caddis Larvae--Part I.

Tying Instructions

1. Debarb hook, place in vise, start thread

 
2. Tie in pheasant tail fibers (4-7) and mono ribbing.

 
3. Wrap pheasant fibers and tie off.

 
4. Counter-wrap ribbing and tie off.

 
5. Dub throax.

 
6. Tie in starling. Wrap twice. Trim top and bottom fibers.

 
7. Whip finish and trim.
