HOOK: Dai Riki, size 8-12

THREAD: Black

TAILS: Black goose biots

BODY: Black Ice-dub

RIBBIING: Fine gold olval tinsel

HACKLE: Light partridge over dun CDC

ANTENNAE: Black goose biots

THORAX: Peacock Ice-dub

HEAD: Black or gold brass bead

Variations

The original Pupatator has a black body, black ostrich herl thorax, and light partidge hackle.. A CDC Pupatator uses natural dun CDC for the hackle. Other variations on the Pupatator theme are the Peacock Pupatator, Fuzzball, and Hizzo.

How to Fish

Dead drift near the bottom with an indicator or tight line presentation.

Tying Instructions

1. De-barb hook. Slide on bead and place hook in vise.


 
2. Tie in black goose biots, "V" style.


 
3. Tie in gold tinsel.


 
4. Dub tapered body of Black Ice-dub. Leave 1/8" between end of body and bead.


 
5. Rib with gold tinsel. Tie off and trim.


 
6. Tie in CDC feather. Make 2-3 wraps, sweeping back fibers with fingers. Tie off and trim


 
7. Tie in partridge hackle. Make two wraps. Tie off and trim.


 
8. Tie in black biot antennae.


 
9. Dub Peacock Ice-dub thorax.


 
10. Whip finish and cement head.
