Sheep Creek Special

Created by George Biggs

HOOK: TMC 5262, sizes 8-16

THREAD: Dark Olive

TAIL: Brown hackle wound on the shank as for a dry fly.

BODY: Dark olive chenille

WING: 5-7 mallard flank fibers

A rather odd-looking fly--to the human eye, anyway--the Sheep Creek Special is an effective attractor pattern for lake fishing. It suggests many different aquatic organisms, including leeches (in large sizes), midges (in small sizes), damselfly nymphs, and dragonfly nymphs. The fly is especially popular in the Rockies.

How to Fish

Use an intermeditate line and a count-down-and-retrieve or slow retrieve presentations. Slow strips or steady hand-twist retrieves work best.
