Madam X

Recipe

HOOK: 2X heavy wire, 2X long shank, turned-down eye; e.g., TMC 5263 or equivalent. Sizes 6-10

THREAD: Yellow

TAIL: Deer hair

BODY: Yellow thread or Superfine dubbing.

WING/HEAD: Deer tied bullet style, with ends pulled back to form wing

LEGS: Round black rubber tied alonside

Uses

Imitates the adult form of the golden stonefly. Or a grasshopper. Or (in orange) an October caddis. Sometimes trout just can't resist a bunch of rubber legs wiggling on the surface.

The fly is named after a 1960s movie, a 1980s rock band, or an 1880s painting by John Singer Sargent; take your pick.
