Happy New Year of Arts & Crafts!

Here's a birthday gift for my lovely wife. (Her birthday is the day after Christmas, and I have been painting variations of her favorite iris, Iris siberica, for the past 37 years).

Iris Siberica, gouache on paper, 8.5"x11".

        Hi Stevie,
It's watercolor, but with so much pigment in the medium that it becomes opaque when using small amounts of water. Used a lot for magazine illustrations in the early to mid-20th century. Great for painting outdoors, dries quickly, only uses water for thinning and clean-up, and is an open surface (can be reworked).

Caddisman, thanks for the art technique lesson! I don't paint but do love to learn more about how things are made.

JZ, nice milky way shot. Earlier this year, or shot from somewhere south?

Thanks,Scott. That was actually from June (on Martha's Vineyard). I had many MW shots that night that I was happy with.

Here's a newer one, from Christmas day. One of my favorites of 2017.

Busy, busy these days. Just took delivery of a load of materials for framing in the shop in the new garage. Anxious to get on with that. I just finished up a Rainbow for a friend over on the McKenzie River. I tried to get him believable as a nice McK fish. The fish is 20" long... a heck of a McKenzie RB. I thought about putting a tag on him so Arlen and the fish tracking crew could see he swam over from the Eastside, but decided that was overdoing it. ;-)

Next up is a Kanektok River Dolly in outrageous spawning colors.
