  • September 2019 Arts & Crafts

This painting is a few years old, but when my friend (in the picture) saw it on Saturday he said, "We have to go up there"! So we did, yesterday. Great when a painting inspires a fishing trip!

Hope to see a great month of arts & crafts, keeping in mind that this is the second to last month we'll be seeing this topic, or any thread shown on Westfly.

I am submitting a couple of recent works for the annual Artists of the Gorge show. Last year I was a juror and it was fun. The sum total of works for this group show has markedly improved. Gone are the occasional derivative works, that plagued this show years ago.

Living in the middle of wine country, you learn -- even if you never drink the stuff -- about all the influences of weather/climate on wine. You learn about ice wines, made from grapes left on the vine until a good hard freeze. You learn about the impact that smoky weather has wine.

But so far, I haven't figured out if "Lightning Wine" is a thing. I'm thinking it should be.

Colored pencil drawing of a Parachute Emerger, aka "Altoid Emerger", as shown in Arlen's, destine to become a classic fly fishing book, Bug Water, and a direct result of the creativity spawned by this Westfly community of artists, fly fishers, and craftsman.

Just givin' you the business Bill - I think it looks incredible, and yes, menacing while still elegant.

                cheers

                Patrick,
My records show that the drawing was done in 2009. My, how time zooms by!
I think I'll stick to fly fishing subjects for art posts over the next few weeks; a kind of retrospective of Westfly art as a final farewell to the forum.
